On your Samaria Gorge adventure, the bus will travel west towards Chania along the north coast and then southwards into the White Mountains and up to the Omalos Plateau (appr. 2-2 ½ hours) and the entrance to the gorge. Situated within the National park of Samaria, the gorge is 16km long, starting at an altitude of 1250m, at the northern entrance, and taking you all the way down (approx. 5-6 hours) to the shores of the Libyan sea in Agia Roumeli. You will able to appreciate one of the most spectacular natural beauties of Crete walking through a fragrant forest of pine and cypress trees and within steep cliffs that in some points rise dramatically to a height of over 300m and a very narrow passage of only 3.5m. Once arrived in Agia Roumeli you will be conveyed on an equally interesting boat trip to Chora Sfakion (1 ½ -2 hours), where the bus will be waiting to take you back to your hotel. Good walking shoes are recommended.
