This tour takes us to the southwestern part of Crete and the magnificent sandy beach of Elafonissi Island (appr. 2 ½ hours). After a coach ride, that offers a remarkable impression of small, traditional villages and Mediterranean scenery we arrive at the beach. During this ride you can see the rugged landscape around the Topolia Gorge and there is time for a break for coffee and refreshments. On the way you will see Chrissoskalitissa Monastery, visible from afar as it is a dazzling white and built on a great rock. This historic monastery, dedicated to Virgin Mary, is surrounded from the legend of the golden step in which, only a truly devout is able to see it. Elafonisi is 5 kilometers from Chrissoskalitissa. Its sand is white, but in many places it is pinkish due to the thousands of broken seashells that contains. The limpid, blue-green waters will remind you an exotic paradise. Arriving at this gorgeous destination you have 4 hours to marvel at the play of colors between the soft white – pink sand, the blue sky and the turquoise waters. Apart from staying on the main beach you can also explore the small island, which is less than 200 meters from the beach and lies just off shore. You can easily walk there through the warm, shallow water of the lagoon or reach it by wading through the water. On reaching the island you will discover lots of tiny beaches on its south coast. Both beach and the island are protected wildlife areas of a rare beauty, confirming why Elafonisi is a remarkable and splendid destination.
